Identifying the Cause of Peculiar Pain of Limb for Infants
Naming the Disease as “Infantile Episodic Lib Pain”

Collaborative research of Department of Pediatrics, Akita University Graduate School of Medicine and Department of Health and Environmental Sciences, Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine identified the cause of pain triggered by coldness and fatigue of limb for infants, named as “Infantile episodic limb pain”.
They also revealed cause of pain is from single nucleotide mutation of SCNA11A gene. The result of a study is published in PLoS ONE, an online science journal, on May 26th, 2016.
With this disorder, the pain goes away before the time of puberty therefore it is presumed that it has been overlooked in many cases. Therefore it is anticipated that potential number of patients are not small that will lead to understanding of the actual condition of Infantile episodic limb pain. Up to now there are total of 24 patients, estimation can be made that there is a high incidence in Japan.
Form now on, we will proceed for field survey and push head for precise diagnosis by having gene test at medical institution. At the same time, for the purpose of developing treatment, we will continue the mouse and cell experiment which we believe will contribute for development of analgesics from the new point of view.
