Introduction to Akita

 

Akita Prefecture is located in the northeast part of Honshu on the Japan Sea side, shares the same latitude with Beijing, Madrid and New York.

Akita City, the capital of Akita Prefecture, is located in the center of the Prefecture. Being surrounded by mountains and the Japan Sea with beautiful changes at four seasons in a year, it is a city full of natural scenery and greenery everywhere. Making use of the natural resources, Akita has many traditional handicrafts,the local cuisines, as Kiritanpo cooked with delicious Akita Rice, can be rated as superb delicacies. In addition, the sweet and clear water wells up from abundant nature, it makes Akita City renowned for the native place of rice and Japanese wine.

The accumulated snow in Akita City is relatively light in winter. There are only several days in a year with atmospheric temperature below zero centigrade. Therefore people can lead a comfortable life here all the seasons.


Headed by the Kanto Festival of Akita City, lots of festival activities are held throughout the year at various places in Akita Prefecture, they make numerous travelers fascinated each year. So you will surely enjoy yourself too.
