Housing

Akita University has two apartments for international students. Each room is fully furnished and provides free Internet access. Monthly rent is 5,900 yen for a single student room and 9,500 yen for a couple room. Electricity, water, and gas bills sum up approximately 10,000 yen per month.

International Student House

附属図書館The International Student House is located approximately 15 minutes walk from both Tegata and Hondo campuses of the university and the railway station. There are 27 rooms for single students and 3 rooms for students with partners.

There are a lounge, a Japanese style room and a laundry room for common use.

International House

附属図書館The International House is adjacent to Tegata campus. It is a new apartment for international students and foreign researchers. It has 20 rooms. 10 rooms are for single students. The others are for researchers.

New Male Student Dormitory

A new dormitory with 130 rooms for male students will open in April 2010. 15 rooms are planned to be assigned to international students. Location is approximately 10 minutes walk from Tegata campus and the railway station.

Private Apartments

附属図書館A typical apartment for students has a 6-tatami size (10 sqmeters) room, a bathroom with a bath tab and a toilet, and a small kitchen. Monthly rent is approximately 30,000 yen.

Separate payment for gas, electricity, and water is needed. When you sign a contract, you need to pay a deposit and a non-refundable key money.

Generally, the total amount due is about two or three times as much as the monthly rent. After payment, the university will provide financial aid to cover one month rent upon request.
