Principles and Goals
Akita University has established the following set of basic principles, and has formed five essential goals in order to realize them.

Essential Goals
- To establish a student-centered education system,to nurture personnel who possess a wide-ranging education, in-depth specialization, rich personalities and high-level ethics
- To promote various research projects, basic as well as advanced,which are intended to promote a harmonious co-existence with nature
- To create broadercommunities including local areas
- To establish internationally-based educational and research centers to deal with various global issues

Institutional Goals
Undergraduate Courses
- To help students become capable of contributing to society with a broad range of general knowledge, advanced expertise, and sound ethics
- To nurture students to become capable of making a greater contribution to the intellectual and economical development of the local communities
- To train students to improve overall communication skills, carrying out international exchange
Graduate Courses
- To train students to have advanced expertise, intellectual creativity and sound ethics
- To train students to become capable of performing as leaders who have advanced research competency
