Tutor
International students can get tutorial assistance for their studies and/or university life from Japanese students who are serving as tutors. The duration of the tutorship is two years for undergraduate students and one year for graduate and research students.
Health Service
1. University Health Center
The University Health Center provides free basic medical services and free counseling for the students and staff of the university. The Center has full-time medical doctors and counselors who diagnose and treat students for physical and mental problems. The Center provides all the students at Akita University with an annual health examination, the certificate of which is required when they apply for any scholarship or employment.
2. National Health Insurance (NHI)
International students holding a student visa for one year or longer are eligible and required to have NHI, administered by the Japanese Government. This insurance policy covers up to 70% of the medical expenses for their illnesses, injuries, or dental treatments. In Akita City, the fees are approximately 20,000 yen per year. Medical expenses over 35,400 yen/month will be reimbursed by Akita City or your local municipality.

Akita University provides counselors on campus to resolve your problems and concerns.
