Short-term overseas study program

Faculty of Engineering Science

What I learned through the program

Application of daily conversation in English.
Study of English grammar, both in the classroom and practical work.

My life during the program

The host family provided us with a clean living environment, a transformer for my electrical items, other necessities, and a stove. As it was my first time to experience a homestay, I was feeling anxious and nervous, but my host family was kind to me. By talking about everyday things adjusted to my level of English proficiency, they helped me improve my language skills and also taught me about the cultural differences between Japan and Canada.

Overall impressions of the program

My experience changed what I had previously thought was universal common sense and my sense of values in a positive way. After arriving at my study abroad destination, I was filled with anxiety, but just before returning home, I found myself wanting to spend more time here. I thought many times that I was glad that my first study abroad experience had been here.

Future plans for study

In addition to the specialized undergraduate study I have been doing, I would like to work hard to improve my English skills through use of ALL Rooms, which has increased my motivation to learn English, and through conversations with friends I have made while studying abroad.
