Pounding Mochi Experience (December 21, 2015)
This is an annual event and held every December which is run by support from Akita University neighbors. This time around 100 people came to participate it including international students, Japanese students, university staff, and more. They all had a good time while eating freshly pounded mochi. The international students, following advice from neighbors, enjoyed pounding mochi with a mallet. After pounding the mochi, they put sweet bean paste, roasted soybean flour and sesame on each freshly pounded and rolled mochi, and also made zouni (mochi in soup with vegetables). One of them said "It is very soft and tasty," and the other said, "I would like to know how to make zouni and want to try to cook it at home."
