Akita University has established its own scholarship program that awards 50,000 yen per month for those who have excellent academic records and are recommended by its overseas partner universities. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has a program through which students are invited to study in Japan at the state’s expense.

An “Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students” has been provided by JASSO.

Although very competitive, there are some privately financed scholarships for self-funded students. Notices are generally circulated via bulletin boards around campus. The application requirements vary among scholarships.
