The International Center for Research and Education on Mineral and Energy Resource of Akita University (ICREMER) held its first International Symposium of this academic year, or the sixth in its entire history, at the Akita University Mineral Industry Museum on Monday, July 2, 2012.
The symposium entitled “Mineral exploration in Asia” had participation of four guest speakers invited from abroad, as well as Professor Ogata, Assistant Professor at ICREMER. They gave presentations on resource exploration as well as experiences and present status of mine development in Myanmar, Mongolia, Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia.
Approximately 60 persons, mainly graduate students and the Faculty of Engineering and Resource Science of the Akita University, attended this international symposium. The audience seemed to be especially interested in the presentation by the Head of Exploration Department of the Newmont Mining Corporation, which included topics from perspectives of private business operation in the mining sector. As the company is enthusiastic about accepting student interns, students are encouraged to contact ICREMER if they are interested in this opportunity.
