JSPS core-to-core Project " International Workshop on Resource Science and Sustainable Development" was held.

 

 

 

 

 

 The International Center for Research and Education on Mineral and Energy Resources (ICREMER) held the "International Workshop on Resource Science and Sustainable Development " on Wednesday, October 19 at Akita University. This workshop was part of the JSPS core-to-core Project entitled "Establishment of a Center for Training Young Resource Information Researchers for Sustainable Resource Development in the Countries in Economic Transition in Central Asia".
 The workshop invited experts in various fields from four central Asian countries (Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan), which have abundant underground resources, to present the current status, approaches, and researches in the field of natural resource sciences.
On October 20 and 21, the participants were divided into two groups to participate in the field surveys at smelters, mine sites, resource recycling companies, and mine wastewater treatment facilities in Akita Prefecture and surrounding areas. This trips provided an opportunity to learn about the current status of sustainable resource development and utilization in Japan.
The participants from Akita University, overseas partner institutions, and Japanese partner universities such as Hokkaido University and Kyushu University were attended, and it was a fruitful event that will lead to the promotion of future joint research.
The workshop will be held in conjunction with ICREMER's regularly scheduled International Symposium.
