ICREMER holds the JSPS Core-to-Core Project "International Seminar in Kazakhstan"

 

 

 

 

The International Center for Research and Education on Mineral and Energy Resources (ICREMER) of Akita University held an "International Seminar in Kazakhstan" on Thursday, September 22, 2022, as part of the JSPS Core-to-Core Project "Establishment of a Center for Training Young Resource Information Researchers for Sustainable Resource Development in Central Asian Countries in Economic Transition". The seminar was followed by mine visits on September 23 and 24, 2022. The participants visited the Arcelor Mittal, a steel manufacturer in Temirtau City and the Altyntau Gold Mine in Kokshetau City.

In this seminar, resource science specialists from Japan and four central Asian countries with abundant mineral resources (Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan) gathered together in Nazarbayev University, Kazakhstan. Welcome addresses were given by Prof. Ilesamni Adesida, Provost of Nazarbayev University and Mr. Ilyas Ospanov, Chairman of the Industrial Development Committee, Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Prof. Randy Hazlett, Dean of the Nazarbayev University School of Mining and Geosciences delivered the opening remarks.
Plenary talks were delivered by Prof. Atsushi Shibayama (Akita University, ICREMER) and Prof. Fidelis Suorineni (Nazarbayev University). Keynote talks were given by Prof. Sereenen Jargalan (Center for Research and Innovation of Technology Minerals, Mongolia), Prof. Hayrullo Hamidov (Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies, Uzbekistan) and Assoc. Prof. Bekbolot Attokurov (Krygyz State University of Geology, Mining and Natural Resources Development). Research themes were presented by young researchers, Asst. Prof. Hajime Ikeda (Akita University), Assoc. Prof. Nasser Madaniesfahani (Nazarbayev University), Assoc. Prof. Sergei Sabanov (Nazarbayev University), Assoc. Prof. Kazutoshi Haga (Akita University) and Asst. Prof. Pearlyn Manalo (Akita University). This was followed by seven short presentations by students from the participating countries.

This seminar was endorsed as a commemorative event celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
