Mr. Matsuyama, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Botswana, makes a courtesy visit to Akita University.(March 24, 2010)

 

On March 24, Mr. Ryoichi Matsuyama, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Botswana, visited Akita University for a courtesy call. Akita University has signed a partnership agreement with Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), a new university which will be opened in March 2011. Akita University also has sent its teaching staff members to Botswana, while accepting students from the country as well.
In the meeting held at the Office of the University President, Ambassador Mr. Matsuyama said, “Akita University, with its centennial tradition since the foundation of the Akita Mining College, is our indispensable partner in Japan’s contribution to the development of resource utilization in Botswana, for which we wish to continue our discussion to contemplate and detail possible areas of collaboration from each other.” The University President Prof. Noboru Yoshimura replied with great enthusiasm, “Our University opened the International Center for Research and Education on Mineral and Energy Resource (ICREMER) in October last year and has been making satisfactory progress in international cooperation activities in the area of resource studies. With the Republic of Botswana, we wish to promote our cooperation in the sector of medical science as well”. The University President also expressed the strong wish that the Japanese Embassy facilitates further support for overseas students from Botswana through scholarship and fellowship programs.
Following the meeting, the Ambassador had a talk with students from Botswana who study at the Graduate school of Engineering and Resource Science, and then visited the Venture Business Laboratory and the Mineral Industry Museum of Akita University.
