Akita University signs partnership agreements with two universities in Mongolia.(July 2010)

Prof. Noboru Yoshimura, President of Akita University, visited Mongolia in late July and signed international partnership agreements with Ikh Zasag University named after Chinggis Khaan and Mongolian State University of Education, respectively.
Mongolia is rich in underground resources but suffers insufficiency of experts in mining studies in the country. Akita University, mainly through its International Center for Research and Education on Mineral and Energy Resources (ICREMER), will support those two universities which are considering a plan to establish a new faculty related to mining studies for human resources development in the sector. Akita University also has a partnership with Mongolia University of Science and Technology based on an agreement signed in October last year, with a plan to establish a program using a teleconference system to promote exchanges among researchers and provision of information for students who are interested in studying abroad.
ICREMER undertakes the central role in Akita University’s international cooperation in the field of resource studies. ICREMER has already started its cooperation in Botswana, one of resource-rich countries in Africa, to assist the project of establishing Botswana International University of Science and Technology, a new university with a particular focus on mining-related studies. Following Botswana in Africa, ICREMER will extend its major field of activities in resource studies to Mongolia in Asia.
