From June 19th to July 14th, 2023 – ICREMER (International Center for Research and Education on Mineral and Energy Resource), Akita University conducted the “Short Stay Program 2023.”
The program aims to give opportunities to interact with Japanese students and learn the fundamentals of resource development. Twenty-four students from thirteen universities, mainly from central Asian such as Mongolia, Thailand and Uzbekistan gathered at Akita University to participate in the month-long short-term training. The Short Stay Program also includes the “Smart Mining Special Program,” which allowed two students each from University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa), BIUST (Botswana International University of Science and Technology), and University of Botswana to participate.
Participants joined resource facilities tours, tutorial lectures hosted by ICREMER members, visited Akita Katagami windfarm, Kosaka Smelting & Refining Co., LTD, and Osarizawa Mine as fieldtrips to acquire specialized knowledge and analysis technology.
Students did group presentations, divided into five groups based on their research field and were given a certificate of completion by the head of ICREMER.
