From July 10th to July 14th, 2023 – “Collaborative Training of DigiMine” was conducted at University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa). Eighteen second year masters students who participate in the “Smart Mining Special Program”, five each from Akita University/Kyushu University, two each from University of the Witwatersrand/University of Botswana/The Polytechnic Institute of Tete (Mozambique), and one each from Botswana International University of Science and Technology/University of Zambia, participated.
The purpose of this program is that students visit DigiMine Lab. at University of the Witwatersrand which leads smart mining in South Africa, acquire the latest smart mining skills and experience practical tutorial with using materials.
During the program, participants took lectures on summary of South African mining and smart mining which is advanced mining technology, visited an open-pit mine and underground mine in South Africa. Students were inspired by actual mining visits, acquired theory/knowledge related to smart mining and got fruitful opportunities to put in practice.
