From September 19th to September 28th, 2023 – a collaborative research project was conducted at the Graduate School of International Resource Sciences, Akita University. Nineteen second year master’s students from the “Smart Mining Special Program” participated, five each from Akita University/Kyushu University, two each from University of the Witwatersrand/University of Botswana/Botswana International University of Science and Technology/The Polytechnic Institute of Tete (Mozambique), and one from University of Zambia.
This program is the last session on Inter-University Exchange Project “Smart Mining Special Program,” and the purpose is to teach practical programming related to the knowledge they have acquired from “Basics of Mining Informatics” that was conducted online in the fall of their first year. Lectures were first given by technician Owada, then students were divided into five groups (mixed nationalities) to work on tasks related to Smart Mining.
Participants joined two excursions, one to the Akita City Waste Treatment Facilities and the other to a wind power plant in Katagami City on day one. On day two, they visited Cape Nyudo in Oga peninsula and some places to experience Akita culture and nature.
On the last day, special resource lectures were given by associates of the Smart Mining Program, and final group presentations were conducted. Participants who have successfully completed all courses including the collaborative research project received completion certificated from Professor Adachi of Akita University, program coordinator and became the first students to finish the Smart Mining Program.
