Smart Mining Special Program “Collaborative Social Science and Humanities Training One”

From December 11th to December 14th, 2023 – the Graduate School of International Resource Science of Akita University conducted lectures entitled “Collaborative Social Science and Humanities Training Part One” for the second-batch of students in our Smart Mining Special Program. Six students from Kyushu University and five students from Akita University participated in person, while five students from African countries joined online. During the first half of the program, students took daily lectures such as Mineral Economics, International Relations, Development Studies, and Energy Systems. Based on the knowledge participants gained from these lectures, they had a group discussion about the fourteen growth sectors established in the “Green Growth Strategy” initiated by the Japanese Government in the latter half, and each group made a presentation on the final day. This was a great opportunity for Japanese students and students from across Africa to share meaningful experiences and discussions.
The purpose of the lecture was to improve the understanding of sustainable resource development with a focus on Africa and provide participants with additional opportunities to further their own research activities.
