University Library

附属図書館

The University Library consists of the Main Library (Tegata Campus) and the Medical School Library (Hondo Campus), both of which carry out the systematic collection and management of academic materials, including books, journals and electronic information, as well as providing this collected information to users. As a library whose doors are open to the local community, it also aims to be the kind of library where people from outside the university are free to drop in and make use of its resources. Visitors are able to use the library’s browsing service and out-of-hours loans service. In addition, from the 2008 academic year, loans and reference services have been further enhanced using the Akita Prefecture Library Cross Search System, a result of collaboration between libraries in Akita Prefecture.

The Main Library has a collection of around 417 thousand volumes, and the Medical School Library around 108 thousand volumes. The University Library offers the following kinds of services, providing support to students and staff in their learning, educational and research activities.

University Hospital

The University Hospital is not only an institution for education and research but also a core medical institution in the local community. As a medical institution, it utilizes knowledge from a broad array of fields along with medical treatment through the latest medical devices. In recognition of this, in 1994 it was designated as an advanced treatment hospital. As a hospital that plays such a leading role in the local community, the hospital will continue to take even greater steps in contributing to regional society.

The hospital provides excellent services along with high quality, advanced medical treatment to its patients under a safe care environment. It also plays active roles in nurturing outstanding medical scientists and furthering medical research. On top of this, it is making efforts to fulfill a central role in regional medical care and health activities, and is also actively seeking to make contributions at the international level.

Mining Museum of Akita University, Faculty of International Resource Sciences

The Mining Museum of Akita University is a world class museum in this field. Visitors to the museum can marvel at specimens of nature’s own magnificent figurative arts, including minerals, rocks and fossils. At the same time, the museum seeks to teach the importance of underground resources through materials related to their development and use. The museum houses approximately 20,000 such specimens and materials.

Kindergarten, Elementary School, Junior High School and Special School for Mentally Retarded Children, Faculty of Education and Human Studies

附属幼稚園・小学校・中学校・特別支援学校

The university’s affiliated schools consist of the Kindergarten, Elementary School and Junior High School surrounding the Special School for Mentally Retarded Children. Approximately 1,300 children learn at these schools under the charge of around 110 teachers. All four schools are situated on the same premises, something which is rare in Japan, with only five such examples nationwide including the university’s affiliated schools.
