*In addition to the rent for the dormitory, residents must pay their own expenses for utilities(electricity, gas and water) and hall management fees (2,500 JPY/month).

Procedures for moving into the International House

Eligibility

International researchers engaged in education and research at Akita University (international researchers, visiting international researchers, researchers invited through the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) international exchange program and other eligible researchers) and their spouse and children.

Period of stay

One month to one year (maximum limit of one year).

Procedures for moving in

  • STEP.01
    Check the availability of the room you would like to reserve and make a provisional reservation. You will be able to make a provisional reservation from six months prior to the desired date of moving in.

  • STEP.02
    The following documents must be submitted to the International Affairs Division at least one month prior to the desired moving-in date through the General Affairs Section of the applicable faculty or graduate school.

    ①Application form for the International House (Attachment Form No.1-2)
    *Please download the form from the “Application and notification forms download” page.

    ②A copy of the “Report on Acceptance of International Visiting Researchers” or an equivalent document officially certifying acceptance by the university.

    ③A copy of the passport (page with name and photo) of the resident (and all co-residents, if any).

  • STEP.03
    The International Affairs Division will send a letter of acceptance to the host faculty member through the General Affairs Section of the applicable faculty or graduate school upon which the reservation will be finalized.
*Please note that the prospective tenants cannot themselves apply directly to the dorm. Procedures for moving in should be carried out by the host researcher at Akita University.
*Please note that depending on availability, we may not be able to accept your reservation for the desired period.

How do I apply to live in the dormitory?
Applications are accepted at any time. Your application status will be posted on this website, so please check it accordingly.
Do I need a guarantor when I move in?
No, you don’t.
Is it possible to change rooms after moving in?
In principle, you cannot change your room.
Is there a parking lot or bicycle parking lot?
Yes, there is a parking lot and a bicycle parking lot, and they are free of charge. However, prior permission is required for parking cars, while prior permission is not required for bicycles.
The period of residence is one year, but can I stay longer than this?
No, the maximum period is one year.
Is there a curfew?
There is no curfew, but there is a daily quiet time from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am. Other rules set by the university must also be strictly observed.
Is it possible to move in earlier than the scheduled moving-in date?
No, it is not.
Can I keep a pet in the dormitory?
No, pets are not allowed in the dormitory.
Do you have a cleaning service?
Shared facilities such as the multipurpose hall, kitchen, and laundry room will be cleaned by the contractor, but the personal rooms must be cleaned by the residents themselves.
Is there a cafeteria in the dormitory?
No, there is no cafeteria. You can prepare food in your room.
