Japanese Government Scholarships
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to those who are recommended by Japanese universities or Japanese embassies abroad.

- Stipend of 152,000-158,000 yen/month for Graduate Students (2009)
- Stipend of 125,000-128,000 yen/month for Undergraduate Students (2009)
Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students at Akita University
Akita University established its own scholarship programs for those who have excellent academic records and are recommended by its overseas partner universities. Both degree seeking regular students at the graduate level and short-term exchange students are eligible for the programs which offer 50,000 yen.
United Nations University Financial Assistance Program for Students from Developing Countries Studying in Japan (UNU-FAP)
Applicants must be at a cooperating university. Students from developing countries without funds may apply.

- 100,000 to 400,000 yen Assistance One Time
- Students pay back 10,000 yen/month.

Akita Women's Association to Promote International Exchange (WAPIE)
- Privately financed female students may apply.
- 5,000 yen/month Books Expenses Grant
Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)
- 48,000 yen/month for Undergraduate Students
- 65,000 yen/month for Graduate Students
Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Foundation
Those students who need two years or less to finish their course, such as juniors and seniors in an undergraduate course may apply. Scholarship will be granted up to two years.
- 100,000 yen/month for Undergraduate Students
- 140,000 yen/month for Graduate Students
JGC-S Scholarship Foundation
- Formerly Called "Saneyoshi Scholarship Foundation"
- Applicants must major in science or engineering.
- 250,000 yen/year
Heiwa Nakajima Foundation
- Scholarship will be granted up to two years.
- 100,000 yen/month for Undergraduate Students
- 120,000 yen/month for Graduate Students
The Korean Scholarship Foundation
- North Korean students and South Korean students from Japan as well as home country may apply.
- 25,000 yen/month for Undergraduate Students
- 40,000 yen/month for Master Course Students
- 70,000 yen/month for Doctor Course Students
Mabuchi International Scholarship Foundation
- North Korean students and South Korean students from Japan as well as home country may apply.
- 25,000 yen/month for Undergraduate Students
